A BRIEF HISTORY:

Champagne Vineyards Ltd, formally Champagne India Ltd was set up in 1982 as 100% export oriented unit in technical collaboration with Champagne Technologie of France for manufacture of wines. Champagne Indage Ltd. formally Indage (India) Pvt Ltd was incorporated in 1985 and was converted to a Public Ltd Company in 1987.

Champagne Vineyards Ltd was in the business of Viticulture and production, export of wines while Champagne Indage Ltd was involved in producing and selling of wines in the domestic market and in the engineering and the hotel business till 1996. In January 1997 as a part of the restructuring of the Indage Group, the Hotels and the Engineering division of Champagne Indage Ltd were de – merged & both now work as separate entities. As a result today, Chateau Indage is the most successful wine brand name globally.

The Journey

Champagne Indage Ltd, pioneers of authentic wines in India produce a rich variety of exquisite red, white and sparkling wines. Presiding over 32 labels these delectable wines from the rich reservoir of Chateau Indage are highly acclaimed and relished amongst a spectrum of global taste. It took nearly two years and 3,000 pages of study by Champagne Technologies of France to decide upon ‘Narayangaon’ nestled in the surroundings of the Sahayadri valley as the idyllic setting for a world class winery and vineyards.

The detailed study of soil, climatic conditions, rainfall and topography that matched the Champagne district, France for viticulture of world famous wine grapes such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Malbec, Viognier, Grenache, Arkavati, Arkeshyam, Ugni Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon blanc, Merlot, Zinfandel, Muscadet, Semillon and Chenin blanc.

Vineyards

Until 1982, Narayangaon was a small obscure dot on the map of India, which over the last two decades has transformed itself as an international viniculture region sprawling over 1000 acres of prime wine plantation, with additional 1500 acres under cultivation. International viticulture practices of grafting specially imported wines classified as vitis Vinifera onto root stalks was widely used during the growth stage of Vineyards with extensive use of French wines. Champagne Indage has also pioneered the use of ancient varieties such as Arkesaham and Arkavati grapes along with Thompson seedless and Bangalore Purple. The lime rich and Chalky soil married to a controlled macro climate in the Sayadari valley strike a perfect balance for the cultivation of grapes from strong disease free wines that produces consistently high yields with quality and uttermost purity

Winery

Champagne Indage produces sparkling and still wines from two state-of-the-arts, automated wineries that have commenced the very first and the only producer of bottle fermented sparkling wines in Asia and the ninth in the world.

Overwhelmed by the global and domestic interest, the construction of its third state-of-the-art vinery is well under way. With a bottling capacity of 6,000 bottles an hour, all stages of production use the latest technology for “Methode Traditionelle” sparkling wines with the accent on quality as a first and only priority. Strong research and development in the vineries is necessary to adopt international wine making standards. This has resulted in the production of stable and consistently high quality still in sparkling wines.

Wines

Champagne Indage utilize the expert guidance of French, Californian and Australian wine masters at every grape harvest in order to benefit from the fast experience and knowledge of these international wine regions. Chateau Indage wines have been listed in the world wine encyclopedia and acknowledged by all the celebrated wine critics world wide.
